Minimal traffic Labor Day weekend

Town of Joseph is delightful, I feel fortunate to have access to this route to ride.

FS 39 from near Halfway, OR is undergoing road construction on the "North Pine Section" for about 12 miles. Check with USFS on when and if road is open during summer 2014. It was only open Friday-Monday when we visited. Some gravel sections and some new chip seal. Road condition in other places is deteriorating. Lots of twisties but coming around a corner and having a pothole or gravel will ruin your day. Watch out for livestock on road out of Halfway, OR.

Hells Canyon route! Great ride if you want endless twisties! You are in the bush,so not a lot to look at until you get to the overlook, but you best be watching the road anyway! Some very long stretches of very sharp stuff! Ton's of fun! Stop at the overlook for sure! I find the locals are good at waving you around as there are not many places to pass. Makes a great route from S Idaho up to Lewiston!
