went on the route 21/04/07. Great day. The road down to bala was in good condition. A variety of good corners. The road surface was good but the best was yet to come. The best was yet to come. The road out of bala has great scenic views. the road surface is good with long straights and awsome corners...and not a copper in sight! A must do route
EddieTravelled this route many times over the past 15 years and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. On a sunny day this is a dream. Depart Penyffordd on A550 turning right onto A5104, over staggered junction and on towards Treuddyn. Beautiful, rural countryside opens out over Llandegla moor, over roundabout for Horsehoe Pass leading to Llangollen, and on to roads around Corwen. Onto A494 and into Bala, where fuel stop is v handy (attended - how quaint) - big biker's haunt on hot days, and then continue on beautiful sweeping quick A494 towards Dolgellau. This section of the road is magnificent with amazing views over the lake to the South. Lots of contrasts in this route - quick, shallow-cornered good-vis roads and tight, narrow, twisty lesser roads, but a remarkable trip into some of UK's best scenery. Watch out for mobile speed traps (lots of signs for cameras - there aren't any fixed ones) as Welsh Police take no prisoners; you have been warned. Scratch this trip in under an hour or take your time, laughing as you accelerate past caravans and boats. Fabulous. Enjoy!
