I've done this in June and the road state is deplorable - in some parts there are more potholes than tarmac. My advice is to approach from the south and head up north until you get bored of the road, then turn back around. From the north side the road is very poor.

I have done only the southern half part of this route and it’s really great. Nice corners and spectacular views. I assume that the northern part is the same cause is marked as a scenic route in my Michelin map.
