I rode SS17 from LAquila to Antrodoco in May 2012 and it was great fun due to almost no traffic. Maybe I was lucky and rode it at just the right time. Lots of nice high speed curves.

I rode SR80 from LAquila to Teramo in September 2010. Tarmac was in decent shape and nice scenery through the Grand Sasso National Park. Some sections of easy sweepers and some sections of tighter twisties. A good motorcycling road without all the traffic of the Alps!

Take S 80 out of or into Teramo. This takes you through the Gran Sasso National Park region. Wonderful scenery, great riding and a fair selection of places to stay.
