I have travelled this route several times. Tofino/Ucluelet is well-worth visiting, but the highway there is nothing special. The government has made some improvements in recent years, but there are some sections still that are quite rough and bumpy. Some sections are fine for riding, other places you really have to slow right down and watch out for pickup trucks and RVs coming over the yellow line on some of the curves. Overall nothing special.
Starting off in Parksville, the first 30 minutes is fast highway, turning into waterline curves, and amazing trees until Port Alberni. After Port Alberni, fast mountain sweepers over a mountain pass with great panaramic views, until we go coastal again, at which point its very much rock wall on your left, cliff to water on your right with blind corners and hairpins. After the junction to Tofino heading north, a fast curvy highway with fun yumps in elevation around bends with decent sight lines. The main dangers are deer, bear, and cracking around a blind corner to eat an RV bumper. Lots of terrified tourists, very few police except in Parksville, Port Alberni, and Tofino entrance and exits. Inclement weather as well... this is a rainforest with coastal storms and fog and a high-ish mountain pass. Not for winter!!An amazing ride, and the land and ocean are spectacular to see, with enough changes in the kind of riding and scenery to keep an ADD kindergartner occupied.
